Zack Snyder has been responsible for many of the films released in the wider DC Extended Universe, with his latest director’s cut version of Justice League releasing to huge fanfare. In a recent interview, though, Snyder talked about how he’d love to tackle another story from classic DC lore.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder spoke about wanting to adapt Frank Miller’s classic The Dark Knight Returns story, albeit without Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck.

“No, I don’t think so,” Snyder said when asked if he’d bring Affleck and Cavill back. “I think it would just be its own thing. Yeah, I think it would be its own thing. I would just do it one hundred percent, Watchmen-style, really frame-accurate. Really do it. I don’t think it would be that expensive, to be honest. I don’t think so. It’s pretty gritty.”

The Dark Knight Returns was a big inspiration for Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with an older Batman featured in the film. Despite the heavy influences, Snyder still dreams of adapting the original comic on its own. While it’s unknown if this will ever occur, Snyders idea of adapting the film in a frame-accurate style is likely to get fans excited, as his take on Watchmen also saw the film almost fully adapted from the graphic novels to the screen.
