Killer Films and Yellow Bear Films has officially acquired the rights to author Sue Miller’s Monogamy and is currently in the process of developing a film adaptation of the bestselling drama novel. According to Deadline, Academy Award-winning actress Holly Hunter has entered negotiations for the leading role in the project, which would mark her first live-action feature in a long while after she appeared in 2017’s The Big Sick.  Should the deal pushes through, The Piano actress would also serve as a producer.

First published in September 2020, Monogamy centers around a golden couple, Graham and Annie, who have been in devoted marriage for nearly 30 years. Graham is a bookseller, a big, gregarious man with large appetites—curious, eager to please, a lover of life, and the convivial host of frequent, lively parties at his and Annie’s comfortable house in Cambridge. While Annie, a photographer, is more reserved and introspective, making her quite the opposite of her husband. When Graham suddenly dies—this man whose enormous presence has seemed to dominate their lives together—Annie is lost. What is the point of going on, she wonders, without him? Then, soon after his death, she discovers that Graham had been unfaithful to her, which leads her to spiral into darkness, wondering if she ever truly knew the man who loved her.

Producers are Shapiro, Killer Films’ Pam Koffler, and Yellow Bear’s Andrew Morrison, with Miller set as an executive producer.
