New Hawkeye set photos feature closer look at Alaqua Cox’s Echo

A new batch of behind-the-scenes photos from the Atlanta set of Disney+’s Hawkeye have surfaced online (via Just Jared) as production continues for the highly-anticipated MCU series. The photos provided us with our first look at MCU newcomer Alaqua Cox’s portrayal of Maya Lopez -a.k.a Echo- as she rocks a leather biker jacket while riding a motorcycle. Check out the full photos below!

Even though the character hasn’t made her debut yet, Marvel Studios is already planning an Echo spinoff series which is reportedly in the early stages of development, with Etan and Emily Cohen attached to write the potential series. In the comics Echo is a deaf Native American character who is capable of perfectly duplicating any physical movement or action she sees thanks to her photographic reflexes and is an expert in various forms of martial arts, among other abilities.

Hawkeye will follow Jeremy Renner as he reprise his role as Clint Barton, with the story also set to introduce his fan-favorite protégé Kate Bishop, who is officially being portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld. Due to previously released set photos, it has been seemingly confirmed that the MCU series will be set two years after Avengers: Endgame in 2025. It has also been heavily speculated that the upcoming series would finally be adapting one of Hawkeye’s prominent storylines from the comics, where Clint loses his hearing.

Joining them are recently confirmed Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee (Animals), and newcomer Alaqua Cox. It will also reportedly feature Black Widow‘s Florence Pugh, Tony Dalton (Better Call Saul) and Zahn McClarnon (Doctor Sleep).

The limited series is directed by Amber Finlayson and Katie Ellwood, aka Bert and Bertie, who are best known for their work on Troop Zero, and Rhys Thomas (Staten Island Summer). Hawkeye is expected to debut in Fall 2021 on Disney+.

In the comics, Bishop becomes Hawkeye after Clint Barton, and is also a member of the Young Avengers. Disney has not yet confirmed if they have plans to give Bishop her own spinoff show or have her appear in the MCU down the road, but it is certainly a possibility.

The project’s working title “Anchor Point” is actually serving as a homage to the first volume of Kelly Thompson’s fan-favorite comic book series that was published in 2017. Titled as Vol.1: Anchor Points, it was Kate Bishop’s first solo comic series after appearing in the Young Avengers issues. However, it’s still unknown if the said comics’ storyline would connect to the series’ plot or not.
