Already having an animated project under his overall deal at the studio, Emmy winner Trevor Noah has entered development on another new film at Paramount Pictures in the form of a remake of James Coburn-led satirical black comedy The President’s Analyst, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, released in 1967 and written and directed by Theodore J. Flicker (Barney Miller), centered on the overworked and stressed-out White House presidential shrink as he runs from his job after cracking from the strain of all of the secrets of the job and becomes paranoid, with the CEA and FBR scrambling to bring him back before he can be abducted by a competing foreign intelligence service. Though a commercial failure on its release, the film received very positive reviews from critics and has garnered a large cult following in the years since.

While details for the plot of the new film are being kept close to the chest, sources report it will be a re-examination of the satire explored in the original through the lens of the contemporary political landscape. The script for the project, which is being developed as a potential starring vehicle for The Daily Show host, has been penned Pat Cunnane, who previously served six years as President Barack Obama’s senior writer and deputy director of messaging at the White House.

Following the conclusion of Obama’s terms as President, Cunnane penned the comedic memoir West Winging It and then moved to Los Angeles, in which he was able to put his years working in the White House to good use scripting an episode of the Kiefer Sutherland-led drama Designated Survivor.

Noah is set to produce the film with his Day Zero Productions partner Haroon Saleem alongside Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin Mainstay Entertainment. The project marks the second in the works at Paramount under his overall deal, which currently includes the recently-announced untitled animated comedy based on a story idea from Noah and being penned by Happy Endings co-showrunner Jonathan Groff and Community alum Jon Pollack.
