Lionsgate has finally released the first Moonfall teaser for Roland Emmerich’s newest action sci-fi disaster epic, following Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and 2012. Starring Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson, the film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Friday, February 4, 2022.

The video, which you can check out in the player, provides us an intense and thrilling first look at Moonfall as an unknown force causes the moon to head straight to Earth, threatening the extinction of the world with a number of major catastrophes triggered by the impending impact. Now, the fate of the world is in the hands of three people led by Berry’s Jo Fowler who must go on an impossible space mission to stop the moon from crashing to Earth.

Moonfall is directed by Roland Emmerich from a screenplay he co-wrote with Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen. The film stars Oscar winner Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson (Midway, The Conjuring films), John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Michael Peña (Battle: Los Angeles), Charlie Plummer (All the Money in the World), Kelly Yu, Eme Ikwuakor (On My Block), Carolina Bartczak (X-Men: Apocalypse), and Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games films).

“In the film, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it,” reads the official synopsis. “With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman believes her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is.”
