Covid: Most Restrictions Set to End in England on 19 July

Prime Minister Boris Johnson says England will have most restrictions lifted from 19 July, as part of the final stage of the country’s lockdown exit roadmap.

Face masks will no longer be legally required and all social distancing rules will be abolished, Boris Johnson has confirmed.

The rule of six inside private homes will be removed and work-from-home guidance will also be eradicated.

The PM said he anticipates the final stage would go ahead as planned on 19 July. Details of which will be confirmed on 12 July after a review of the latest data.

Further updates on school bubbles, travel and self-isolation will follow in the coming days, Mr Johnson told a Downing Street news conference on Monday.

He said that even after the removal of the legal requirement to wear a face covering, he would continue to wear one himself in crowded places “as a courtesy”.

A clip from the Monday press conference was shared on Twitter, alongside the tweet: “As we come to the fourth step, we have to balance the risks – the risks of the disease and the risks of continuing with legally enforced restrictions that inevitably take their toll on people’s lives and livelihoods.”

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will regulate their own coronavirus rules.
