Priyanka Chopra Jonas Foundation x Give India Extends Appeal to Fight Hunger Amid Covid Crisis

Post a Comment

The latest appeal from the Priyanka Chopra Jonas Foundation seeks funds to further tackle hunger and malnutrition amid the Covid crisis in India.

A statement updated on the Give India website thanked supporters for their donations so far in the emergency appeal for oxygen concentrators and access to vaccines. However, the partners have extended their plea for further donations to fight hunger and malnutrition.

The statement currently reads:

“With your support we have raised Rs 7.84 Cr on this fundraiser to support oxygen supply for COVID patients in India and set up vaccination centres to combat the spread of the pandemic. The funds raised till date have helped us support:

  • Purchase of 500 Oxygen Concentrators
  • Procure 422 Cylinders
  • Help 6000 people get vaccinated

While we are overwhelmed by the support that has come in and as we continue to raise more to support India’s healthcare infrastructure, we would also like to support another need of the hour…Fighting Hunger and malnutrition.

A recent study by the Azim Premji University has shown that one year of Covid pushed 230 million Indians into poverty. Millions of Indians are struggling to eat even one meal a day. 95+million children are without midday meals with schools being closed due to the lockdown. The only nutritious meal they were getting everyday is also not available anymore.

GiveIndia is helping serve cooked meals and dry rations to families in need. Not just daily wagers or migrant workers, these meals are served to municipal wards, municipal staff, orphanages, elderly in need, sick patients and others in need.

Let’s come together to help India in this moment of crisis as they not only battle the COVID pandemic but also hunger. Together we can stop hungry families from starving to death. Provide them with wholesome cooked meals and dry rations. Do your bit, now.”

A recent post shared by Chopra Jonas on Twitter, showed an infographic highlighting how “millions of Indians are struggling to eat even one meal a day,” with an accompanying message that raises awareness about coming together to fight more than Covid.
